(AP Photo)ILIGAN, PHILIPPINES: The Philippine military said on Saturday that 13 marines have been killed in fierce fighting with Islamist militants who have laid siege to the city of Marawi. Military spokesman Col Edgard Arevalo says the marines were killed in close-quarter combat on Friday. US forces are providing the Philippines with technical assistance to end the siege but as yet have no "boots on the ground", the Philippines military said on Saturday. In Marawi, military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jo-Ar Herrera confirmed the US assistance.
